Physical Education
Physical Education at the Unquowa School is unique. Students have gym classes 5 days a week from PreK-4 through eighth grade. Each class begins with 10-15 minutes of age-appropriate warm up exercises that cover stretches and cardio with an emphasis on injury prevention and sports preparation for the skill sets that support locomotive skills, balance, coordination, and the standard sports of soccer, volleyball, basketball, paddleball, tennis, lacrosse and field hockey. The President's Fitness Challenge begins and ends the year, with students comparing and celebrating their personal best results throughout each year of fitness. Upper school students participate in sports trips and team building workshops throughout the year.
Athletics
Unquowa is a member of The Fairchester League of Private Schools and the sports program is supported by the PE curriculum. Students are developing skills from Kindergarten on up that will ignite interest, develop skill sets and promote sportsmanlike conduct and fair play. The JV team invites third, fourth and fifth grade students who learn the excitement of belonging to a team, good sportsmanship, game skills and school spirit. Varsity teams invite sixth, seventh and eighth graders to play on a more experienced and competitive level.
Sports offered: JV Soccer, Varsity Soccer, Field Hockey, JV Basketball, Girls Varsity Basketball, Boys Varsity Basketball, Tennis, Girls Lacrosse, Boys Lacrosse and Future Stars Baseball. Sports clinics are offered throughout the year.
Health
Health and Hygiene focus on state standards for nutrition, self esteem, harassment prevention strategies and topics that are age appropriate for the older students who are preparing for high school. The Unquowa School prides itself in addressing the "whole student" approach to education. Self-esteem workshops are a priority. We place emphasis on nurturing the confidence of our students as they move forward to high school and life pursuits.
